Social Networking: Facebook

Social Networking has become, very recently, a must do area of marketing if you are serious about your website becoming a success. www.Facebook.com is now the 4th largest website in the world, and the best place to find people, keep up with them, and inform them. (Twitter and Linkedln are also important but for now I have started with Facebook).

There are two ways of going about this; you are only allowed one Facebook account even if you use different email addresses they will find out, therefore if you already have a Facebook account you need to ‘create a page’ on the sign up page (underneath the sign up button on www.facebook.com) If you don’t have a Facebook account, sign up for one, it’s free! You can then go on to create a page as detailed above, or you can simply use your main facebook account to post useful ideas and links.

To make your username your website name or description eg. JanesEcoStore rather than your real name you go to settings > edit account > Username (change) … you can only do this once so be careful in your choice.

Now you have done that, you ideally want your website address to be www.facebook.com/janes.eco.store, in order to do this you go to http://www.facebook.com/username/ (you may need to verify your account with a mobile phone text message they send you with a code in it)

So…you’re now all set up but need some ‘friends’ that maybe aren’t just a slow influx of family and friends. You are allowed up to 5000 firends on Facebook but how do you get them? I found this answer, which so far is working very well.

In a nutshell, you join the group, go to discussions tab, reply to last post by copying and pasting the one above and then adding a comma (don’t forget the comma!!) and placing your own email there. Your email is now there for the next people that join. Then go to add friends in your account, and paste the post there as well. You are now requesting that all those people become your friend.
I will just post the link on here rather than go on writing as I think it is fairly self-explanatory, but any questions let me know.

I joined this group a couple of weeks ago and they are still coming in every day at a steady rate. You cannot get banned or penalised for using this method; beware of any software for getting Facebook friends as you can very easily get your account banned.

Great article, yeah you are dead on, Facebook is killing it in the world of social media. They have an excellent pay per click platform and pricing as well, much more effective than Google Adwords often enough. Very good read, thanks for the heads up.
