We have been asked about this a few times so decided to write a small post on the easy way to achieve having a link in your top navigation linking to an external website. For instance, you might have two websites, a gardening site and a gardening books website. On your gardening Wordpress website you would like a page showing in the top navigation saying books and leading to your gardening books website.
There is a very neat plugin called ‘Page Links To’, which does this for you. If you are unsure about installing a plugin click on the link to view how to. Then instead of searching for the ‘thank you button’ search for ‘page links to’.
Once you have installed and activated the new plugin, you simply add a new page (click if unsure how to) and then go to edit the particular page and right at the bottom of your screen you will see the option to send the link to a new url, either in the same window or a new window.

No more limiting yourself when you need to get an external URL up there. This is a really nifty plug in if you ask me! And the fact that you are able to work with relative URLs surely saved me when I transferred domains last winter
